Blackhawks Sign Lukas Reichel to Extension

The Chicago Blackhawks have made a notable roster move, as they have signed forward Lukas Reichel to a two-year, $2.4 million contract extension. He will carry a $1.2 million cap hit starting next season.

Reichel, 21, appeared in a career-high 65 games this season, where he had five goals, 16 points, and a minus-29 rating. Overall, it was a bit of a rough year for the youngster, as he had seven goals and 15 points in just 23 games in 2022-23.

While Reichel had a down year for the Blackhawks, there is no question that he has a lot of potential. The 2020 first-round pick has the tools to blossom into a top-six forward, and he has shown in the past that he can produce at the NHL level. Now, during the 2024-25 campaign, he will look to not only bounce back but take a big step forward in his development.

Given his struggles this season, it makes sense that the Blackhawks have decided to give Reichel a bridge deal. They are now hoping that the youngster will progress in his development during this deal. He is a clear player to watch heading into the new campaign because of it.
