New York Islanders Sign Maxim Tsyplakov

The New York Islanders have made a move, as they have signed forward Maxim Tsyplakov to a one-year, entry-level contract.

Tsyplakov was picking up a lot of interest around the NHL, with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens being two teams in the mix for his services. However, the Islanders have won the sweepstakes and have added an intriguing piece to their roster because of it.

Tsyplakov, 25, has spent each of the last seven seasons with Moscow Spartak of the KHL. The 6-foot-2 winger had a breakout season with the KHL squad, posting new career highs with 31 goals, 16 assists, and 47 points. After a season like this, it makes sense that he garnered a lot of NHL interest.

The Islanders need more scoring and overall forward depth, so it makes a lot of sense that they are taking a chance on a promising winger like Tsyplakov. The potential for him to be a solid scorer with size in the NHL is there, and it will be interesting to see if he can be just that for the Islanders next season.

The Islanders have been connected to Tsyplakov since February, and now they have gotten their target. Let's see how much of an impact he makes for them from here.
