NHL Rumors: Latest on Patrick Kane's Future With Red Wings

Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane is one of the top free agents who could hit the market this offseason. The Red Wings are expected to try to keep him around, as he was nothing short of excellent for them in 2023-24. However, given a recent update, it seems that Kane staying put with the Original Six club is far from set in stone.

According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the Red Wings remain "in the mix" and are expected to talk with Kane's agent, Pat Brisson, over the next few weeks. However, he also noted that as it stands right now, Kane is more likely to hit the free-agent market on July 1.

After an outstanding bounce-back season, one couldn't fault Kane for testing his value on the open market. The star winger showed that he is still a very impactful player, and there will be a ton of interest in his services if he hits free agency. Along with that, it's understandable if Kane would want to play for a true contender at this juncture of his career.

Kane, 35, appeared in 50 games this season with the Red Wings, where he had 20 goals, 47 points, and a minus-5 rating. With numbers like these, just about every team would love to have a player like him in their top six. We will need to wait and see if the Red Wings can convince him to stay put or if he will sign elsewhere from here.
