Senators Rumors: Jakob Chychrun Connected to Metro Team

The Ottawa Senators have a pretty major decision to make with defenseman Jakob Chychrun. He is
entering the final season of his contract in 2024-25, and it seems that he is not set in stone about the prospect of signing an extension with the club. Because of this, he's a big-time trade candidate heading into the offseason.

Chychrun generated trade interest near this year's trade deadline, and that is likely to continue over the summer. The Washington Capitals were one club that was heavily linked to the star, and they need to be watched this offseason when it comes to him because of it.

The Capitals were completely outmatched by the New York Rangers during the playoffs, as they were swept in the first round. After being beaten so convincingly, there is no question that the Capitals need to make some big-time moves this offseason if they hope to be competitive for the remainder of Alex Ovechkin's career. Adding a top-pairing defenseman like Chychrun would be a significant step in the right direction.

Chychrun would give the Capitals a steady all-around defenseman who contributes well offensively and is effective defensively. Because of this, he would be a good fit on both of their special team units if acquired.

We will need to wait and see if the Caps can land Chychrun this offseason from here.
