Maple Leafs Rumors: Latest on Joel Edmundson's Future

The Toronto Maple Leafs have an array of free agents heading into the 2024 NHL Offseason. As a result, they have some big decisions to make but especially after another first round playoff exit.

We have now gotten an update on one of their notable free agents. According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, defenseman Joel Edmundson is open to returning to the Maple Leafs but is also planning to test the free agent market. In addition, the Maple Leafs have expressed interest in re-signing the veteran.

Edmundson, 30, should get plenty of interest around the league on July 1. The left-shot defenseman is a solid bottom-pairing guy who plays a safe defensive game and brings plenty of physicality. This should make the 6-foot-5 defenseman a hot commodity this summer.

Edmundson appeared in 53 games this season split between the Washington Capitals and Maple Leafs, where he had one goal, six points, 80 hits, and a minus-2 rating. He also had an assist in seven playoff games for the Maple Leafs.

It will now be interesting to see where Edmundson ends up this summer. While the door is not closed with a potential return to the Maple Leafs, it certainly is possible that he could play elsewhere, given his desire to test the market.
