Capitals' Fehervary To Miss The Rest Of Playoffs
There is some bad news for the Washington Capitals who lost defenseman Martin Fehervary to an injury on April 15 against the New York Islanders and missed Game 1 of the first round series with the Montreal Canadiens.
He sustained an injury to his right knee and underwent a successful surgical procedure to repair the meniscus on April 21 and will miss the remainder of the playoffs.
Fehervary played 81 games for the Capitals this season and recorded five goals and 25 points. He was a +18 on the season, averaged 19 minutes per game, and he excelled defensively where he blocked 150 shots and delivered 139 hits.
Fehervary played a ton on the penalty kill, reaching nearly 250 minutes while down a man or two. He played the most with Matt Roy at 5-on-5 (606 minutes) and they had a 59.8 goals for percentage. Fehervary was defense partners with two other d-men on the Capitals for a fair amount this season as well. These players were John Carlson (288 minutes) and Trevor van Riemsdyk (255 minutes). Fehervary did much better with Roy than anyone else and it is a big loss for the first round series and beyond for Washington.
