Cam Fowler Opens Up On His Future With St. Louis Blues

NHL News: Cam Fowler, with one year left on his contract, is longing for an extension from the St. Louis Blues

When the St. Louis Blues acquired Cam Fowler from the Anaheim Ducks in December, it's reasonable to think that even they didn't expect it to go this well.

The 33-year-old, who was off to a very slow start in Anaheim, was completely rejuvenated in St. Louis, and now, with one year left on his contract, is longing for an extension from the Blues, as reported by Chris Pinkert of nhl.com.

Yeah, absolutely... I would love to be around as long as they’d like me here. I honestly can’t say enough about this team, this city and what it means to be a Blue and what that means for the players and for the fans and the community. It’s something I’ve really enjoyed.

Fowler came over to the Blues with only four points in 17 games and a plus/minus rating of -7 with the Ducks. But since his first game with St. Louis on Dec. 14, Fowler was the 10th-highest scoring defenseman in the NHL with nine goals and 36 points in 51 games with a robust +19 rating. He also led the team in playoff scoring with 10 points in seven games.

He's going into Year 8 of his $52 million deal ($6.5M AAV), but the feeling seems mutual about extending the relationship.

“You bring in somebody that had an impact that Fowler had on our group, sliding into your Top 4, Top 3, likely Top 2… statistically being one of the top players in the game at his position from the day he got here… I think we’ve shored up our Top 4 D for now,” Blues president and GM Doug Armstrong told Pinkert.

The Blues went 30-16-6 with Fowler in the lineup.

“He looks like a great-conditioned athlete, he’s a great person and I’m getting to see that more and more every day,” Armstrong added. “He’s fitting into where we are next year and we’ll see about moving forward.”

Fowler will be eligible for an extension as of July 1st.
