Hurricanes Sign Goaltender Frederik Andersen to an Extension

Take one free agent goalie off the market this summer, as the Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed veteran Frederik Andersen to an extension, on a one-year deal worth $2.75 million.

The injury-prone netminder posted a 13-8-1 record with an .899 save percentage and a 2.50 goals against average in 22 regular-season games with Carolina this season. He missed nearly three months to a knee injury.

He was on his game in the first round of the playoffs, however, as he led Carolina to a 3-1 series lead over the New Jersey Devils with a sensational .936 Sv% and a 1.59 GAA. Then, the injury bug took him out of Game 5 of their series, but he returned to practice on Friday in the starter's crease, ahead of their Round 2 matchup against the Washington Capitals that begins on Tuesday.

“Frederik has played extremely well for us and ranks in the top 10 all-time for winning percentage by an NHL goalie. We’re excited that he will be staying with the team for next season,” said Canes GM Eric Tulsky.

Andersen, 35, has also played for the Anaheim Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs in addition to the Hurricanes, and has a career mark of 308-153-53 with a 2.56 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. He was an All-Star in 2022 and shared in the Jennings Trophy that season with his crease-mate Antti Raanta as the Hurricanes allowed the fewest goals in the league.
