Senators Rumors: Could Ottawa Trade Drake Batherson?
After a return to the playoffs for the first time since 2017, the Ottawa Senators are now facing an even bigger challenge: doing it again—and going further.
As GM Steve Staios evaluates how to take the next step, one major question has emerged: could Drake Batherson be on the move?
According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, multiple teams are watching closely to see if the Senators might listen to trade offers for Batherson this offseason. His name came up around the deadline, and while the club ultimately chose to trade Josh Norris to Buffalo for Dylan Cozens, Batherson’s uneven postseason performance has rekindled speculation. Though he scored 26 goals and 68 points during the regular season, Batherson was held to just two points in six playoff games.
Drake Batherson gets the @Senators' first #StanleyCup Playoffs goal since 2017! 👏

A Valuable Trade Chip—But at What Cost?
Batherson’s contract—two years left at a manageable $4.975 million AAV—makes him a highly attractive asset. But Staios will need to tread carefully. The Senators ranked 30th in 5-on-5 scoring, and moving a consistent offensive contributor would only make sense if they receive a proven top-six player in return.
“Everybody is looking for a top-six scorer,” Staios said in his end-of-season media availability. “We’ll look at what we have… but a move would have to make total sense.”
We do not need to trade Drake Batherson. Despite his mistakes, I saw enough from him to make me confident he will be good going forwards. And his contract for the next 2 years is great value.

He's not the reason we lost and he is a good player but I'm just gonna say it.

Drake Batherson needs to be traded.
The Senators are likely to target a top-six right winger and a right-shot defenseman this summer. If Batherson is part of that equation, the return will have to match Ottawa’s playoff ambitions—and not just stock the cupboard with picks and prospects.
