Buffalo Sabres Ready To Make Moves To Appease Core Players

The Buffalo Sabres, as they were all season long, are one of the teams to watch this summer, as nobody is happy with coming up short once again in trying to reach the postseason. And that 'nobody' includes the Sabres' players themselves. The front office is ready to shake things up, largely to try to appease the team's veteran core.

Insider Elliotte Friedman spoke about the Sabres on the 32 Thoughts podcast on Saturday, insisting that the team's key players' unhappiness will be spurring them into action.

I get told, 'Buffalo's active'... I think they know that their key guys want to be competitive and Buffalo's trying to make that happen...

I just keep getting people saying to me, 'You gotta watch the Sabres, because they know that their core guys, they want to win.'

Friedman alluded to an hour-long meeting that top defenseman Rasmus Dahlin had with the front office ahead of the trade deadline. And while the D-man denied asking out of Buffalo, he did admit, "I’m not happy with where we’re at, and I don’t want to lose. We have to get better."

Sabres ready to deal prospects for NHL-ready help

The insider indicated that they are more than open to "dealing some of their prospects for more immediate help."

In addition, there are some big names on the rumor mill that could be moving on, including RFAs Bowen Byram and JJ Peterka. The latter could be ripe for an offer sheet, but the Sabres really don't want to let Peterka go, and will likely match.

Fireworks are coming in Buffalo this offseason, however, because, as Friedman says, "They know exactly how their core players feel."

GM Kevyn Adams will have to do a lot better this summer than he did during the season, and he needs to make some big splashes, not only to appease that core, but also to remove the stain of his infamous press conference, in which he blamed the weather and taxes in upstate NY for his team's troubles.
