Could Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews Reunite Next Season?

One of the best storylines to follow this NHL offseason will be the comeback story of Jonathan Toews. Toews told his agent Pat Brisson this week that he's fully committed to making a comeback for the 2025-26 NHL season, which means there's going to be a long list of teams lined up to have a conversation on a one-year deal, with a ton of bonuses structured throughout it.

With Toews being from Winnipeg, there's a natural connection to the Jets, who also have a gaping hole down the middle of their bottom six. Meanwhile, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been linked, and so to  have the Colorado Avalanche. The Avs are likely going to lose Brock Nelson to free agency, so Toews could step in and play a third-line role in Colorado.

While teams are certainly interested, one thing to look out for is Patrick Kane following Toews to whichever team he decides. The two have remained close and would love another shot at playing together, and playing for a Stanley Cup. The Avs have just under $9 million in cap space to work with, so it could be tough to get both Toews and Kane, while also upgrading other areas of your team.

Some other contenders to sign both Kane and Toews would be the Maple Leafs, Anaheim Ducks, Carolina Hurricanes, Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Kane recorded 21 goals and 59 points in 72 games last season, and despite his age, hasn't showed any signs of slowing down. Toews, on the other hand, hasn't played since the 2022-23 season, when he recorded 31 points in 53 games for the Blackhawks.
