With the Stars having very little cap space to work with, Marchment was generating plenty of chatter in the rumor mill as a trade candidate. Now, he is officially on the move, and the Kraken are the lucky team that has landed him.
It is no secret that the Kraken's forward group needs serious help if they hope to get back to being a playoff team next season. Thus, bringing in a power forward like Marchment to their top six is undoubtedly a nice step in the right direction for them. They also did not need to give up much to get him due to the Stars' salary cap trouble, which is a big win.
Marchment is coming off a solid season with the Stars, as he posted 22 goals, 25 assists, 47 points, and a plus-15 rating in 62 regular-season games. He also appeared in 18 playoff games for the Stars, where he recorded one goal, four assists, and a minus-5 rating.
There is no question that the Stars are going to miss Marchment's contributions in their lineup, but they needed more cap space to improve their chances of re-signing their free agents. As a result, Marchment is heading to Seattle.
