NHL News: Stars Sign Matt Duchene To Multi-Year Contract Extension

The Dallas Stars have made a major move, as they have announced that they have signed forward Matt Duchene to a four-year, $18 million contract extension. Starting next season, the veteran forward will carry a $4.5 million cap hit.

Duchene, 34, made it clear following the season that he was hoping to get a contract with more term after signing back-to-back one-year contracts with the Stars. Now, he has gotten just that with this four-year contract, which is great news for him.

This is also a very reasonable contract for Duchene, especially after the season he just had. In 82 games with the Stars in 2024-25, he recorded 30 goals, 82 points, and a plus-15 rating. This is after he had 25 goals, 65 points, and a plus-15 rating in 80 games with the Stars in 2023-24. Clearly, he has been a great fit with the Stars, so it is understandable that Dallas has given him this nice new contract extension.

With this move, Duchene will continue to be a key part of the Stars' top six and at an affordable price. Overall, this looks like it should be a win for both the player and the team.

In 1,138 career NHL games split between the Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Nashville Predators, and Stars, he has recorded 371 goals, 520 assists, and 891 points.
