NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations For Mikael Granlund

Mikael Granlund, Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars are entering the summer with multiple pending unrestricted free agents. Forward Mikael Granlund is among their most notable pending UFAs, and given their cap situation, it seems likely he will hit the market on July 1.

Because of this, let's go over three teams who could look to sign Granlund this summer now.

San Jose Sharks

A reunion between the Sharks and Granlund could make a lot of sense. Granlund thrived during his two-year stint with the Sharks before being traded to the Stars this season, so it would not be too surprising if San Jose brought him back on a short-term deal. The Sharks need impactful veterans to help mentor their youngsters as they continue their rebuild, and Granlund would give them that if brought back.

Montreal Canadiens

The Canadiens are going to be on the hunt for top-six help this offseason, and a player like Granlund could make a lot of sense for them because of it. Granlund would offer them a potential option for their second-line center spot but also could help them on the wing if needed. In either scenario, Montreal would get a boost bringing in Granlund.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes could also make a lot of sense for Granlund if he hits the market this summer. He would be a nice addition to their middle six, as he would give them another strong offensive contributor to work with. They also are going to have cap space to work with.
