NHL Rumors: 3 Teams In The Mix For Stars' Mason Marchment
Dallas Stars forward Mason Marchment is a player to watch this summer. The Stars are looking to free up cap space to help re-sign their pending free agents, and Marchment has been discussed as a top trade candidate because of it.
Interest in Marchment's services is starting to pick up, too, as The Fourth Period reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs, Carolina Hurricanes, and Vancouver Canucks are all linked to the 6-foot-5 forward.
Marchment is somebody the Maple Leafs already know well, as he played his first four NHL games with them in 2019-20. He also played five seasons with their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies. After being traded to the Florida Panthers, Marchment broke out and is now an impactful top-six forward. Thus, it makes sense that the Maple Leafs are looking to bring him back to right a wrong.
The Hurricanes being interested in Marchment is understandable. They are entering the summer with a handful of pending free-agent forwards, and Marchment would have the potential to be a strong addition to their top six. The Hurricanes also have cap space to work with, so they could afford Marchment's $4.5 million cap hit.
As for the Canucks, it makes sense that they have an interest in Marchment. Their forward group needs, and this will be even more of the case if Brock Boeser leaves in free agency. If the Canucks landed Marchment, he would give them a big, hard-nosed forward who also is impactful offensively.
