3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations for James Reimer

The NHL's free-agent market is uber thin as we approach August 1, but that doesn't mean there isn't some experienced talent left unsigned. Veteran goaltender James Reimer remains without a contract for next season, as all signs are pointing to the 37-year-old looking to return to the NHL for one more year.

Reimer appeared in 22 games with the Buffalo Sabres and two games with the Anaheim Ducks in 2024-25, going a combined 10-10-2, with one shutout. He's been mostly a backup at the tail end of his career, and could be a great veteran option as a third goalie to push for the backup role at training camp in September.

As far as potential landing spots go, the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs are likely in the market for a veteran #3 option. Meanwhile, the San Jose Sharks could circle back on Reimer, as they look for a mentor type role for some of their inexperience on their roster.

It won't cost much to get Reimer to sign, likely the league minimum gets it done in the right situation. He's not likely interested in signing on somewhere unless there's a legitimate shot he'd play NHL minutes at some point next season.

The Winnipeg Jets could also look at adding a veteran before the start of training camp as well to round out their roster. Regardless, Reimer is going to have options and is likely to sign a contract at some point this summer.
