Calgary Flames Sign Martin Pospisil To Multi-Year Extension

With Martin Pospisil set to head into the final season of his two-year deal with the Calgary Flames, GM Craig Conroy has decided to lock up the heavy-hitting forward, signing him to a three-year, $7.5 million extension ($2.5M AAV).

The deal buys out two UFA years, and Pospisil will now be an unrestricted free agent in 2029 at the age of 29.

Pospisil signs three-year extension

Pospisil had an up and up-and-down season in 2024-25, still trying to find that proper balance of physicality mixed with self-control, discipline and consistency. He still took a lot of bad penalties, though he did cut down on it overall, with 84 PIM compared to 109 minutes in his rookie year, while he handed out 301 hits.

The 6'2" Slovakian forward played up and down the lineup, even getting a tryout on the first line, but eventually settling more to the bottom, and averaging 13:48 time on ice per game.

After a wild start to the season on the scoresheet with five points in his first three games, his offense cratered for much of the rest of the year, down to just four goals and 25 points. But let's be honest, Pospisil is not out there to light the lamp. He did record a plus/minus of +3, but that, too, was down from his rookie year, when he posted an impressive +14 in 63 games.

He'll now have another four years in Calgary to make himself into a more valuable player in the lineup.
