NHL Free Agency: NJ Devils Re-Sign Cody Glass

At one point leading up to free agency, it seemed that the New Jersey Devils might not even qualify bottom-six center Cody Glass. But after realizing he would be in demand on the open market, they changed their tune. Now, not only did they qualify him to retain his RFA rights, they've extended Glass on a new two-year deal.

The contract comes with a $2.5 million AAV. It's the same cap hit he had on his previous two-year deal.

The 26-year-old was acquired by the Devils at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline from the Pittsburgh Penguins. He posted seven points in 14 games with a +4 rating. On the season, he finished with six goals and 22 points in 65 games.

The former 6th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, it looked like Glass was starting to come into his own in the 2022-23 season, with 14 goals and 35 points in his only full season (72 games). But it's his defensive game that makes him a solid bottom-six option.

Glass will slot in behind Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier on the Devils' depth chart down the middle.

The fact that the center depth on the free agent market is so thin, likely boosted Glass's value, allowing him to nab the two-year deal.
