Winnipeg Jets Re-Sign Dylan Samberg To Multi-Year Deal

The Winnipeg Jets have secured one of their key defensemen for the long term, announcing a three-year contract with Dylan Samberg worth $17.25 million ($5.75 million AAV).

The deal comes just two days before the 26-year-old's scheduled arbitration hearing and eliminates the risk of him becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Samberg Avoids Arbitration With New Contract

Reports from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman indicated that the two sides were $3.5 million apart in their arbitration filings, with Samberg asking for $6 million annually and the Jets submitting $2.5 million. While the gap appeared wide, negotiations gained momentum ahead of the hearing, ultimately leading to the multi-year agreement.

Samberg has become an integral part of Winnipeg’s blue line, setting career highs in goals (6), points (20), and plus/minus (+34) last season despite missing 22 games due to a broken foot. He averaged over 21 minutes of ice time and was a steady presence on the penalty kill, cementing his status as a top-four defenseman alongside Josh Morrissey.

A Core Piece Locked In

Drafted by the Jets in the second round of the 2017 NHL Draft, Samberg has developed into a shutdown defender and is now signed through the 2027-28 season.
