NHL Trade Rumors: Ducks & Penguins Emerging as Trade Partners

The Anaheim Ducks and Pittsburgh Penguins have been rumored to be discussing a trade involving Mason McTavish and Rickard Rakell. The two teams have been talking trade with several teams, however, they're best deal may be together.

McTavish is a restricted free agent who the Ducks are shopping. The 22-year-old is drawing interest from a number of teams, and has even been linked to an offer sheet, but at this point, a trade seems much more likely. McTavish scored 22 goals and 52 points in 76 games last season, as he continues to improve and excel his game at a very young age. The Penguins are looking for their next wave of core players and McTavish fits the bill in a big way.

Rakell is familiar to the Ducks organization, spending several seasons in Anaheim before being dealt to the Penguins in 2022. Last season with the Penguins, the 32-year-old winger scored a career high 35 goals and 70 points, and he'd give the Ducks a huge boost on the right side of their lineup behind Troy Terry.

Ducks GM Pat Verbeek has been very aggressive this offseason, looking for ways to improve his roster ahead of next season, a year where it's playoffs or bust. Landing Rakell in his prime could really push Anaheim.

McTavish would give the Penguins a piece to build around and with his in your face playing style, he'd give some more character to the dressing room in Pittsburgh. Keep an eye on these two teams as trade talks continue, with two GM's who are very motivated to make another big trade before training camps begin in roughly 7 weeks.
