NHL Trade Rumors: Vancouver Canucks & New Jersey Devils Emerging as Trade Partners
The Vancouver Canucks have been one of the busiest teams on the trade market this offseason, and the story could continue as the summer continues. GM Patrik Allvin and president Jim Rutherford have never been shy to make bold moves, so keep your eye on the Canucks.
Evander Kane in, Dakota Joshua traded, Arturs Silovs dealt, lots of trade rumors continue. The big fish to circle is captain Quinn Hughes. Hughes has mentioned to management in the past that his long-term goal is to play on the same team with his brothers Jack and Luke. It was quite the bizarre scene at the end of season media availability when management came out and spilled the beans.
Hughes has two seasons left on his contract at $7.8 million and is eligible to sign a contract extension next July 1. At this point, a trade to the New Jersey Devils is much more likely. The two teams have been linked to a package that includes Dawson Mercer and Dougie Hamilton, but don't be surprised if another team gets involved and it's a three-way deal.
The Devils have been active in trade talks this offseason. GM Tom Fitzgerald admitted at the end of last season the team wasn't going to win with it's current roster and needed to make some changes. They've trimmed around the edges, but landing a player like Quinn Hughes could push them long over the hump, and for several years to come.
