Oilers Trade Rumors: 3 Goalies Linked to Landing in Edmonton
The Edmonton Oilers are looking to the trade market to land another goaltender, and have swung and missed already this offseason.
Frank Seravalli reported the Oilers had interest in trading for Arturs Silovs before he was dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and now have to turn their attention to other options. There's a few goalies on the trade market that GM Stan Bowman could have interest in, and they include:
Tristan Jarry
At the right price, Jarry is worth the risk. He's a bounce back candidate who has been up and down, and very inconsistent the past couple of seasons, but if the Penguins are willing to retain some salary in the trade, the Oilers could take the risk on Jarry finding his game. Jarry has three seasons left at $5.3 million AAV, and if the Penguins eat $1 million per year, a deal could materialize.
Elvis Merzlikins
The Blue Jackets netminder has two seasons left on his contract at $5.4 million AAV, and Merzlikins has asked for a trade once before. The Blue Jackets are open to just about anything this offseason if it makes sense for the future of their franchise. The Oilers have several trade candidates including Darnell Nurse, so things could heat up this summer between these two teams.
Jordan Binnington
It would take quite the trade package for the Blues to give up on Binnington and give the keys to Joel Hofer, but it's certainly not out of the question. The Oilers could get desperate if talks fall apart with other teams and could pony up and pay the steep asking price for a Conference rival. Binnington's been linked to Edmonton in the past, and usually when there's smoke, there's fire.
