Oilers Rumors: Stuart Skinner In Line For Big Payday

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner reacts during 2025 game.

According to Kurt Leavins of the Edmonton Journal, Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner is trending toward a major raise when his current deal expires at the end of the 2025-26 season.

Leavins believes the five-year, $6.25 million AAV deal Lukas Dostal signed with the Anaheim Ducks could serve as a blueprint for Skinner’s next contract, if not the floor. With 38 playoff starts and back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances under his belt, Skinner’s resume outweighs his critics’ concerns about inconsistency, Leavins argues.

Stuart Skinner’s Next Oilers Deal Could Top $6M AAV

Skinner, 26, has averaged 55 games per season with a 2.90 GAA and .893 save percentage over the past two years, comparable to Dostal’s stats but with significantly more postseason experience. While new goalie coach Peter Aubry will be tasked with unlocking Skinner’s consistency, GM Stan Bowman has doubled down on the current tandem of Skinner and Calvin Pickard.

Bowman admitted the team explored other options but felt no better alternatives were available.

If Skinner delivers a steady regular season and another deep playoff run, his next contract could soar well above $6 million annually, whether it comes from the Oilers or another club. As Leavins put it, if Skinner “finally wins that Cup in try #3…that calculus changes. Big time.”
