Talk of Jack Roslovic to Maple Leafs Getting Louder

UFA Jack Roslovic is once again being linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs

As the top unrestricted free agent still on the market, many are wondering why Jack Roslovic, coming off a career-best 22-goal season, is still out there.

Insider Frank Seravalli of Bleacher Report, however, suggests that some observers are hearing that the UFA does, in fact, have a deal in place somewhere, and it just hasn't been announced yet (potentially, we would presume, due to the signing team needing to clear out some cap space).

Seravalli did some checking, and while he was told that Roslovic does not have an actual agreement in place, he says they are "getting closer", and he can easily see him landing with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Some people wonder if Toronto is the fit... I can see that happening. But we know Toronto's cap situation is still going to be tight.

And that, in effect, could be the holdup. We know that Leafs GM Brad Treliving had been working to try to trade Calle Jarnkrok ($2.1 million) and/or David Kampf ($2.4 million). The Buds currently have $1.9 million in cap space. Ridding themselves of either of those two contracts would get them to the $4 million mark.

And coincidentally, that is the magic number that it could take to sign Roslovic. AFP Analytics projects him at a three-year deal with a $4M AAV.

Roslovic potted 22 goals last season with the Carolina Hurricanes (who Seravalli says we can cross off the list for trying to retain him), tying a career high, in just 13:49 of average ice time.

He'd be an ideal fit for the Leafs on their third line, giving them some legit goal-scoring ability on both sides of new 3C Nic Roy, with Bobby McMann on the other flank.

Seravalli adds that the Vancouver Canucks are the other sensible fit for Roslovic, and this is a rumor we've heard at times throughout the summer.
