10-Year Veteran Goaltender Looking To Make NHL Comeback

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Keith Kinkaid reacts during 2023 game.

Former New Jersey Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid is proving he’s not done yet.

The 36-year-old has been a standout in the 3ICE summer tournament, backstopping 3ICE Buffalo to the top seed in the championship round with some big performances, including a 10-save outing against 3ICE NY/NJ. His strong play has reignited talk of an NHL return.

Kinkaid, who last played in the NHL in 2023 and spent last season with the ECHL’s Savannah Ghost Pirates, has 10 seasons of NHL experience, most notably leading the Devils to the 2018 playoffs. Despite posting modest numbers in recent years, he insists his body feels good and says he’s open to any opportunity. “Once it’s done, it’s done,” Kinkaid said. “I still have gas left in the tank.”

While the Devils are set in net with Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen, Kinkaid’s performance in 3ICE, where he’s been praised by former teammate and Devils legend Ken Daneyko, could maybe draw interest from teams in need of depth and help get his name back out there.

Kinkaid last played in the NHL during the 2022-23 season with the Colorado Avalanche, stopping eight of nine shots in one appearance.
