Maple Leafs News: Alex Nylander Re-Signs With Toronto

The Brothers Nylander will be staying together in Toronto for at least another season. Toronto Maple Leafs star forward William's brother, Alex, has re-signed with the AHL's Marlies for 2025-26.

The 27-year-old Alex Nylander (two years younger than Willy) was second in scoring for the Marlies last season, with 23 goals and 44 points in 64 games. He also got into five games with the big club, alongside his bro, but did not record a point, while getting 9:53 average ice time across those contests.

Nylander didn't receive much interest around the NHL last summer as a free agent, despite going on a nice run to finish the 2023-24 season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he popped 11 goals and 15 points in his 23 games there. He eventually signed a deal with the Marlies last summer, and then was signed to a pro-rated one-year, $775,000 contract with the Leafs on Nov 22, 2024 when the team needed bodies at the NHL level. He was able to get on the ice at times with his brother.

The younger Nylander has played 394 regular-season games in the AHL over the last seven years and has accumulated 254 points.

In addition to the Leafs, his NHL stops have included the Buffalo SabresChicago BlackhawksPittsburgh Penguins and the Blue Jackets. He has 25 goals and 49 points in 126 NHL games.

The Marlies on Monday also signed forwards Brandon Baddock and Luke Grainger to one-year deals.
