NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Chicago Blackhawks Who Could Be Traded Next Season
The Chicago Blackhawks are not expected to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2025-26, and are likely once again going to be sellers ahead of next season's trade deadline.
GM Kyle Davidson has only been able to nibble around the edges when it comes to upgrading his roster for Connor Bedard, and so far, there's been limited contract extensions with the former number-one pick. The Blackhawks are a team to watch on next season's trade market, and here's three players could be moved in '25-26:
Jason Dickinson
Dickinson is signed through next season at $4.2 million AAV and does not hold any trade protection on his deal. In 2024-25 Dickinson scored seven goals and 16 points in 59 games. He averaged 15:41 of ice-time per game, including being among the Blackhawks' leaders in shorthanded ice-time. Dickinson can provide a contender with depth among the bottom six, and has the ability to move up in the lineup if there's an injury. Dickinson's versatility to play down the middle and the wing makes him an attractive trade target.
Sam Lafferty
Lafferty is also a bottom-six option who can play multiple positions. The 30-year-old speedster is a penalty killing wizard and can provide some defensive stability to a fourth line of a contender. Lafferty appeared in 60 games with the Buffalo Sabres last season, recording seven points. Lafferty spent 1.5 years with the Blackhawks previously, and was moved to the Maple Leafs in a deal that involved Jake McCabe. While Lafferty is back in the windy city, it may be a temporary stop in his career.
Connor Murphy
Murphy is a right-handed defenceman who has been on trade lists for quite some time now. Murphy's entering the final season of his deal at $4.4 million AAV. The 32-year-old has a 10-team no-trade clause, so he'll have some say in the matter. He's been linked to the Maple Leafs, Oilers, Senators, and Canadiens in the past, so we'll wait and see how things play out next season. Murphy scored 19 points in 68 games last season, and averaged 20:36 ice-time per game, including 2:17 shorthanded.
