NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Teams Linked to Penguins' Evgeni Malkin

According to multiple reports this summer, this is essentially Evgeni Malkin's last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Whether he finishes the whole year, is another story.

The Penguins are in transition mode, as President Kyle Dubas is trying to get his roster younger, and faster, while keeping the veteran core in tact, at least for now. The team has been trying to move Erik Karlsson all summer long, and so far there's been no deal reached despite talks with the Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Malkin on the other hand, is entering the final season of his contract with the Pens, and don't expect to see him sign another extension anytime soon. The 39-year-old recorded 50 points in 68 games last season, and rightfully so considering his age, has shown signs he's starting to slow down. No word yet if this will be Malkin's last season in the NHL.

When it comes to potential destinations, expect to see the Vegas Golden Knights, Florida Panthers, and New York Rangers at the top of Malkin's list. The future hall-of-famer is owed $6.1 million this season against the cap, and owns the cards to his destiny with his no-movement clause.

It's going to be a very interesting season in Pittsburgh. If the Penguins don't get off to a good start this year, the noise is going to increase, and trade winds will be blowing as Dubas is ready to blow everything up.
