Report: Seattle Kraken reject New Jersey Devils trade offer

The 2025-26 NHL season right around the corner, and while training camps may be opening in a couple of weeks, trade talks continue as teams are looking to make some last minutes changes before the start of next season.

Insert the New Jersey Devils. General manager Tom Fitzgerald made it loud and clear after last year that his roster wasn't good enough. While the team has made some changes around the edges, Fitzgerald hasn't done anything major to the top six, which apparently, isn't for a lack of trying.

Ryan Novozinsky: "The Devils reportedly checked in with the Kraken about Jared McCann, but were quickly shot down" - njdotcom (8/29)

McCann, 29, has two seasons left on his current contract at a very reasonable $5 million AAV. He owns a 10-team no-trade list, and certainly has some say in the matter. As far as what the Devils were offering, it likely was a prospect-filled package, as they'd ideally like to keep most of their young roster players on their team.

Dawson Mercer continues to be a player other teams are asking the Devils about, but to this point, Fitzgerald doesn't seem interested in letting him go.
