UFA Hudson Fasching Agrees to Deal With Islanders Division Rival

Hudson Fasching moves to divisional rival as an unresticted free agent

Hudson Fasching has spent the past three seasons with the New York Islanders as a depth forward on a minimum salary contract. As an unrestricted free agent, he's now headed to a divisional rival, signing a one-year, two-way contract, also at the minimum, with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

"Hudson Fasching is a hard-working, responsible winger with size who plays with a great deal of energy," said Jackets GM Don Waddell, in a statement. "His high character, experience and versatility strengthens our organizational depth up front and we’re happy to welcome him to the Blue Jackets.”

It's the third piece of business the Blue Jackets have gotten done this past week, after re-signing the last of their restricted free agents, Daemon Hunt and Mikael Pyyhtia.

This will be Fasching's ninth year in the NHL; in 175 career games, the 30-year-old has 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points along with a minus-7 rating in an average 11:32 ice time per night. The 6'3", 209-pounder has also dished out 167 hits.

He was a fourth-round pick by the Los Angeles Kings (118th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft.

His best season was his first year on Long Island, in 2022-23, when he popped 10 goals and 19 points in 49 games, with a strong plus-10 rating.

In addition to the Islanders, Fasching has also suited up with the Arizona Coyotes and Buffalo Sabres.
