3 Ducks Entering Their Final Year With Anaheim

Jacob Trouba, Anaheim Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks made some improvements this offseason and are just going to keep getting better with their young players and the money they have available. By the end of next offseason, there is going to be more upgrades and players gone to make way.

Jacob Trouba

While it makes sense for the Ducks to move on from one of their veteran big hitters after the season, I don't think it does them good to move on from both. Radko Gudas is more acclimated to the team than Jacob Trouba and will cost less. Money isn't a concern right now, but the Ducks don't have to pay more money than they should as some big contracts to young players are coming. Trouba is going into the final year of his deal and won't be earning close to the $7 million AAV he currently is, but will be moved on from to open up space for Tristan Luneau to be an everyday player.

Jansen Harkins

Jansen Harkins was not impressive at all last season for the Ducks, even in the fourth line role that he plays. He averaged 11minutes per game and scored just two goals and six points in 62 games while being a -13, the worst on the team. His time is very limited and this will be his final season with the team as players like Sam Colangelo, Tim Washe, Nikita Nesterenko, Sasha Pastujov, Jan Mysak, Beckett Senecke, and Roger McQueen all coming soon or arrived already.

Petr Mrazek

The Ducks chose to finally move on from John Gibson with two years left on his deal and swap him out for Petr Mrazek who has one year left on his. It seems like more of a downgrade, but Mrazek did have a solid last two seasons. His role will be reduced with Lukas Dostal taking over like he has. The Ducks also signed Ville Husso to a two-year deal at $2.2 million AAV. This doesn't mean he will be able to regain confidence and be the backup this season or next, but there is a chance. If there are no better options, I can see Anaheim trying to keep Mrazek for another year after this one, but the GM also typically plays hardball and Mrazek could just find an opportunity to potentially start on another team with the goalie market being poor nowadays.
