3 Maple Leafs Entering Their Final Year With The Team
The Toronto Maple Leafs still might make a move or two before the season starts, but that's no guarantee. There are a couple of players that they would like to clear out, but it is a deep team if they also go into the season looking like they do. This is a team with championship potential if they can get past the Florida Panthers in the East, but there will be changes after the season nonetheless.
Calle Jarnkrok
Calle Jarnkrok is one of those said players who the Maple Leafs could move, but clearing him out during the season is just as possible as things happen all around the league. After his healthy first season with Toronto, he has been in and out of the lineup always injured. It's unfortunate, but he can still play and be an effective piece for a team more in need. The Maple Leafs don't have too much space and I think they are sick of seeing him on the shelf more than in the lineup. He is going into the last year of his contract anyways, so the team will move on within the year.
Scott Laughton
Scott Laughton was a solid pickup for the bottom-6, but he is in a role lower than he should be playing. Some of his contract is also being retained, so he would be too rich for the Maple Leafs' blood come next offseason, even though there is no reason for the team to move him before that. Laughton will provide good work, but is going to get more than $3 million on his next deal and Toronto just can't afford that.
David Kampf
David Kampf is the other player I had mentioned the Maple Leafs were okay with moving on from. He may be a bit more difficult because his cap hit is $2.4 million AAV for two more years, but at the same time, he is healthy and very strong defensively. He would be an attractive bottom-6 filler piece for many teams, but the Maple Leafs still haven't been able to move him, that is if they have really been trying to do so. If Toronto holds onto Kampf for the season, next offseason is an easier and better place to move off of him.
