Lane Hutson Could Make Drastic Move After Team USA Olympic Snub
Lane Hutson was a surprising snub from the Team USA Olympic roster. After winning the Calder Trophy last year, the 21-year-old certainly proved his worthiness for an assignment like that, but his omission has not been sitting well with the young defenseman—or the rest of the Hutson family.
And drastic measures might be in order.
The Montreal Canadiens' star blueliner's father, Rob Hutson—who is Canadian—made some eye-raising comments this week about his son's international future.
“I think our family has made a commitment to Team USA hockey throughout the years. I don’t know what (GM) Bill Guerin was thinking, I don’t know him, he probably obviously doesn’t know Lane…We have to live with how they see it, we don’t have to agree with it.. This fuels anyone, especially if you’re as competitive as Lane.""You never know what happens in the future. My boys are also Canadian."

Could Lane Hutson switch Olympic allegiances and go from Team USA to Team Canada?
“There’s no animosity towards it," adds the player's father. "They have the opportunity to make the decisions they make, so be it…Listen, you never know what happens in the future. My boys are also Canadian. So there is an absolute luxury there.”
He then referred to Brett Hull making a similar decision back in the day—in the other direction.
"A lot of great players have been left off Olympic selections in the past... (Brett Hull) voted with his feet. He went from Canada to the U.S. There are all types of scenarios that are... in play."
After Canada passed on selecting Hull for the 1986 World Championships, the dual citizen defected to Team USA. He went on to represent the Stars & Stripes at multiple international events, including two Olympics. Hull's famous father Bobby, a legendary NHL icon, was Canadian, but Brett's mother was American, giving him the dual citizenship.
It remains to be seen if Hutson's father's insinuation comes to fruition. But, coming off a Calder Trophy for the Montreal Canadiens, Hutson could be feeling that Canadian vibe.
