This is the second player who the Wild have invited to training camp on a PTO, as they signed defenseman Jack Johnson to one earlier this summer. Now, Leason will be looking to earn a contract for the season from the Wild, too.
Leason spent this past season with the Anaheim Ducks, where he posted five goals, 12 assists, 17 points, 64 hits, and a minus-2 rating in 62 games. This was after he set career highs with 11 goals, 11 assists, 22 points, and 80 hits in 68 games with the Ducks during the 2023-24 season.
With the Wild needing more forward depth, it is understandable that they are taking a chance on Leason. The 6-foot-5 winger could be a nice addition to their bottom six if he ends up landing a contract for the season, and it will be intriguing to see if he can do just that from here.
In 220 career NHL games over four seasons split between the Washington Capitals and Ducks, Leason has posted 25 goals, 29 assists, 54 points, and 195 hits. Leason was selected by the Capitals with the 56th overall pick of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
