NHL News: Oilers Sign Vasily Podkolzin To Multi-Year Extension

Vasily Podkolzin, Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have announced that they have signed forward Vasily Podkolzin to a three-year contract extension with an average annual value (AAV) of $2.95 million.

Podkolzin was eligible to become a restricted free agent (RFA) next summer. However, the Oilers have worked quickly to get him signed to this contract extension early.

Podkolzin was acquired by the Oilers from the Vancouver Canucks during the 2024 NHL offseason. It is fair to say that the trade benefited Podkolzin, as he cemented himself a full-time spot with the Oilers this past season. In 82 games during the 2024-25 season with the Oilers, Podkolzin recorded eight goals, 16 assists, 24 points, and a career-high 211 hits. He also posted three goals, 10 points, and a plus-7 rating in 22 playoff games with the Oilers this past spring.

With this move, Podkolzin will continue to be a solid part of the Oilers' roster for not only this upcoming season but also for the next three seasons after it. It will certainly be interesting to see how much of an impact the 2019 first-round pick will make for the Oilers after landing this big new contract from here.

In 219 career NHL games over four seasons thus far, Podkolzin has recorded 26 goals, 33 assists, and 59 points.
