NHL Trade Rumors: Sidney Crosby linked to Edmonton Oilers

All eyes will be on how well the Pittsburgh Penguins do this season. If they Penguins struggle, trade talks surrounding captain Sidney Crosby are going to run wild, and it turns out the Edmonton Oilers could be involved.

Crosby's agent Pat Brisson admitted a few weeks ago that a trade is a possibility for his client this season, and even Crosby recently mentioned how it all comes down to winning, and if Pittsburgh isn't winning this season, look for the future hall-of-famer to be more open to the idea of moving on. Crosby saw first hand at Brad Marchand's Stanley Cup party how great it feels to win as a vet, even if it means you have to leave your tenure with one franchise behind.

Recently, The Athletic completed a round-table exercise on where Crosby may end up, and while the Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche seem like heavy favorites, the Edmonton Oilers were mentioned as a team who could wind up on Crosby's radar.

The Oilers are a Cup contender with arguably the two best players in the league. If Crosby wants to go hunting for a fourth title, there aren’t many better places to go in the short term than Edmonton. The problem is the Oilers are tight against the cap and are low on high-end futures, something the Penguins would want. Oh yeah, there’s also that contract situation with their captain. - Daniel Nugent-Bowman, The Athletic.

The Oilers don't have a 2026 first-rounder, so that could be an issue for Pittsburgh, as the next draft is supposed to be very deep with talent. If Edmonton was to pull off the miracle, they're going to have to give up at least Matthew Savoie and Ike Howard, and then some to land Crosby.

Keep an eye on these two teams, but it's all going to come down to where the Penguins sit in the standings around the Olympic break.
