Oilers' Leon Draisaitl Weighs In On Connor McDavid's Future in Edmonton
There's plenty of people around Edmonton who are wondering what's taking the Oilers so long to lock up Connor McDavid to a long-term contract. While McDavid has made it rather clear he's likely going to stick around, some are blasting Oilers' management for not having things wrapped up before the season starts.
As for McDavid's teammates, it hasn't taken Leon Draisaitl long to chime in, as the German forward signed his extension, and would like McDavid to do the same, and soon.
“It’s not really for me to comment on, of course I want him here for as long as possible,” Draisaitl said following an informal skate Thursday. “I want to do it with him, but it’s about him and his family and they’re going to make their decision based on what’s best for them. I know he loves it here, I know he feels at home here, but there’s a lot of things that play into a decision like that. Hopefully something gets reported soon.”

Meanwhile Zach Hyman stated there's no rush, and he'd take his time too. Hyman feels everyone is making a big deal out of it instead of enjoying the moments. Goaltender Stuart Skinner mentioned at the informal skate that he has McDavid's back and is not going to question the Oilers' captain on what his future looks like.
McDavid is entering the final season of his eight-year, $100-million contract, at $12.5 million AAV, and look for his next deal to come in around $15 million per season.
