Utah Mammoth's Alex Kerfoot Out Several Weeks

The Utah Mammoth are starting the 2025-26 NHL season with some injury troubles as the team announced veteran forward Alex Kerfoot is expected to miss multiple weeks.

Kerfoot suffered a lower-body injury and now the 31-year-old starts the season on the shelve. It's a big year for Kerfoot who is a pending unrestricted free agent at season's end. Last year, Kerfoot posted 11 goals and 28 points in 81 games.

The Mammoth were counting on Kerfoot to play a middle-six role this season as he's versatile to play either wing and can also fill in down the middle of the ice. A former fifth-round pick of the New Jersey Devils back in 2012, Kerfoot began his career with the Colorado Avalanche, spending two seasons in Mile High. He'd then get traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs as part of the Nazem Kadri deal, and eventually made his way to Utah via Arizona.

The Mammoth are looking to take a giant step forward this season and had a very aggressive summer. Utah traded for J.J Peterka from the Buffalo Sabres, and immediately have slotted him in on the first line. Meanwhile, they've also cut goaltender Connor Ingram, and handed over the starter, and backup roles to Karel Vejmelka and Vitek Vanecek.

As for Kerfoot, hopefully he doesn't miss too much time and can hit the ground running. Having a down year this season could cost him millions on his next contract.
