Breaking: Thomas Harley Signs Huge Extension With Dallas Stars

With all the extension talk around the NHL focusing on other big names, like Adrian Kempe, Alex Tuch and Martin Necas, one name that's perhaps flown under the radar is Dallas Stars elite blueliner Thomas Harley.

He has now signed an eight-year deal worth $84.7 million ($10.59 million AAV).

Now in his 5th NHL season, Harley logs well over 23 minutes a night for the Stars, and can be counted on to register in the neighborhood of 50 points while racking up blocked shots and posting tremendous plus ratings. He's already off to a great start in the young season, with eight points in nine games.

The 6'3", 214-pound two-way defenseman is an elite skater, can move the puck with ease and create offense, both at even-strength and on the power play.

Insider Marco D'Amico asks a fair question: After this huge cap hit is added to the Stars' salary structure for next season, where does that leave star forward Jason Robertson, who is also due for a new contract after the 2025-26 campaign?

Harley, 24, was a first-round pick of the Stars in the 2019 NHL Draft, 18th overall. In 206 games played, he has recorded 111 points with a plus/minus of +58. He has 312 blocked shots as well.
