Jets Have An Eye On Market For Potential Defensive Addition

Dylan Samberg, Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets are pretty banged up to start the season, with four regulars out of the lineup, including defenseman Dylan Samberg. This potentially creates some problems on the back-end for the Jets to begin the season and it'll be a situation that is monitored.

According to The Fourth Period, "The (Jets) are also believed to be keeping tabs on the defensive market...While a trade is not believed to be imminent, Winnipeg may try to add a defenseman after the season begins if the team struggles out of the gate."

Samberg has a fractured wrist and is expected to be out of the lineup until mid-late November. That is plenty of time for the Jets to see how the depth steps up in his absence and how the team fares on defense. There will be a combination of Haydn Fleury, Luke Schenn, Colin Miller, and Logan Stanley attempting to pick up the slack.

The Jets can't fall behind in the division race as the Central Division constantly shows us just how important it is to win that division. The Jets, though just sneaking past the St. Louis Blues, had an easier matchup than the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche head-to-head from finishing 2nd and 3rd.

Connor Hellebuyck should be able to pick up the Jets when they struggle defensively, but he can only do so much. Winnipeg shouldn't have a tough time making the playoffs, but their goal is beyond that. Upgrading the defense near the start of the season or even near the trade deadline would be a good idea as any of those d-men I mentioned could be pushed out of the lineup on a hopeful Stanley Cup Final run.
