NHL News: Wild Sign Filip Gustavsson To Big Contract Extension

The Minnesota Wild have made another notable move, as they have signed goaltender Filip Gustavsson to a five-year, $34 million contract extension. His new contract extension will kick in during the 2026-27 season, where he will have an average annual value (AAV) of $6.8 million.
Gustavsson was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) next season. However, the Wild have now avoided that possibility from occurring by signing Gustavsson to this big contract extension.

Getting Gustavsson locked up is certainly good news for the Wild, as he is a big part of their roster. The 2016 second-round pick has worked well as their starting goalie, and he will now continue to be a significant part of their group for a long time because of it.

Gustavsson appeared in 58 games this past season with the Wild, where he posted a 31-19-6 record, a 2.56 goals-against average, a .914 save percentage, and five shutouts. With numbers like these, there is no question that the 27-year-old goaltender has a strong season for the Central Division club.

In 142 games over three seasons with the Wild, Gustavsson has recorded a 73-46-17 record, a .914 save percentage, a 2.59 goals-against average, and 11 shutouts. It will now be interesting to see how he builds upon his numbers with the Wild after landing his new contract extension from here.
