The Ask For Rangers' Prospect Othmann Revealed
The New York Rangers are likely going to trade Brennan Othmann this year. He is a 22-year-old former first-round pick by the Rangers with just 26 games of NHL experience. He also didn't make the team out of training camp and has only been alright in the AHL. But the Rangers just called him up and slotted him into the third line after one assist in four games for the Hartford Wolf Pack.
That move seems like much more of a showcase rather than a deserving call-up, as interest has risen for the Rangers' prospect. Elliotte Friedman reported that, "When asked, the Rangers have requested good AHL prospects in exchange for Brennan Othmann."
Othmann may or may not work out with the team that acquires him and will have to pay a decent amount to take the chance on the prospect, but sometimes it does work out to get a player like that to a new environment.
He put up just two assists in 22 games for the Rangers last season, but scored 12 goals and 20 points in 27 AHL games, which is respectable for a 21-year-old. Othmann isn't a teenager, but he isn't out of development yet either, especially since this is just his third year pro.
The Rangers have plenty of prospects that can and will eventually break into the lineup, if they haven't already, such as Noah Laba, Adam Edstrom, Matt Rempe, Juuso Parssinen, Gabe Perrault, Brett Berard, Brendan Brisson, and more. Othmann hasn't stood out enough and the Rangers should be able to bolster another position, other than the wing, with the return they get for him.
