Utah Mammoth Sign Logan Cooley To Huge Extension

Logan Cooley, Utah Mammoth
The Utah Mammoth have signed one of their best young players long-term as Logan Cooley was inked to an eight-year, $10 million AAV deal.

While the price may have been too high at the beginning of the season, Cooley has come out of the gates on fire and has eight goals and 12 points in 11 games. The 21-year-old is one of the league leaders in goals at this point of the season and he looks excellent.

The prices for contracts are going up and it looks like this deal for Utah is about to look great in a couple of years. Even if he was making that money this season, the Mammoth wouldn't be bothered by it. It is the first contract of at least $10 million AAV that the Mammoth have signed a player to, but it's not out of hand for the best center on the team who hasn't reached his prime yet.

Cooley showed bits of the type of player he could turn into, scoring 25 goals and 65 points in 75 games. He is a two-time 20-goal scorer already and has vastly improved since entering the NHL in 2023-24. While playing a ton on the power play this season, Cooley has also taken shifts on the kill, proving that he can be effective anywhere the Mammoth utilizes him. That is the type of player who is deserving of the money he just signed for.

Utah now has most of its core pieces with Cooley, JJ Peterka, Dylan Guenther, Clayton Keller, Mikhail Sergachev, and Karel Vejmelka signed for at least the next three seasons.
