3 St. Louis Blues Untouchables Amidst Bad Season

Dylan Holloway, St. Louis Blues
The St. Louis Blues are a bottom-5 team in the NHL, and it will take quite a bit for them to turn things around. They are without true superstars and have goaltending that has been questionable for years. Some things are going to change this season, so some untouchables and players they don't want to trade have been reported or rumored.

Frank Seravalli said, "There's a few untouchables, maybe three. I'd say that includes (Jake) Neighbours, (Dylan) Holloway, and probably I'd guess...(Colton) Parayko. I don't think they're itching to move (Jordan) Kyrou or (Robert) Thomas. Everyone else is for sale."

Keep in mind, this should go without saying, that the Blues aren't going to be trading some of their young players like Jimmy Snuggerud, Dalibor Dvorsky, and likely Philip Broberg either. Teams will likely know this, but might ask on Broberg because of his contract and the fact that he's 24 years old, not 21 or younger like the other two not mentioned by Seravalli.

Neighbours, Holloway, Parayko, Kyrou, and Thomas, along with the three other names mentioned, are a solid core to build around that could get the job done down the line. Unless there is an offer they can't refuse, it is worth keeping all of them, especially given the value for anyone else who could be traded.

Pavel Buchnevich might be tough to trade, but I don't see the Blues trying too hard to hold onto him at $8 million AAV for five more years. He has two goals and eight points in 22 games, but it will be tough to find anyone willing to take that this season.

The five names that stand out the most are Justin Faulk, Jordan Binnington (who has played better as of late), Oskar Sundqvist, Pius Suter (who can play 2C and proved it last season), and Brayden Schenn.

Starting goalies aren't easy to come by and while streaky and not the best in the regular season, Binnington is great in the playoffs. He also doesn't have too bad of term left with one year remaining. Schenn is already or is going to get plenty of attention. He is another playoff-type player and a leader. He has two years left after this season at $6.5 million AAV.

Faulk has been the best defenseman on the Blues and plays in all situations. Any team would love to have him still. Sundqvist is a solid depth piece that can play center or the wing and is cheap. Suter had to step up and serve as the top line center for the Vancouver Canucks last season and did a good job. He is in a lesser role this season, but he is a great insurance policy for a team down the middle. The Blues should start receiving calls and moves start to happen before the new year.
