Flames' Blake Coleman Speaks on Swirling Trade Rumors Around Him

Calgary Flames forward Blake Coleman reacts during 2025 game.

Blake Coleman knows his name is out there.

The 33 year old winger has one year left at a $4.9 million cap hit, a 10 team trade list, and has arguably been Calgary’s most reliable forward during a miserable start that has them near the bottom of the standings. If general manager Craig Conroy decides to sell, Coleman could be one of the first names made available.

How Blake Coleman trade value grew in Calgary

After wrenching his back during Tampa Bay’s second Stanley Cup run, Coleman spent years managing a nagging injury that made even practice a grind, he said. This past summer was the first time he didn't need injections or major treatment, and the difference is showing in his game.

Now in his fifth season with the Calgary Flames, he has missed only a handful of games since arriving, is tied for the team lead in goals, and keeps bringing the same relentless, two way style of play that made him a beloved figure with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he won two Stanley Cups.

He kills penalties and drives play alongside longtime linemate Mikael Backlund. Factoring in his playoff resume and his reputation as a seamless locker room fit, and it's easy to see why insiders are saying he could be Calgary’s most desirable trade chip if Conroy officially decides to sell.

Which teams could explore a Blake Coleman trade?

Coleman has already admitted he hears the rumors, joking that trade talk keeps his family entertained while he mutes the group chats and just keeps playing his game.

League chatter has linked him to several contenders looking to upgrade their forward depth, including teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, Ottawa Senators, Utah Mammoth and the New Jersey Devils, who have openly been connected to a possible reunion.

It's easy to imagine the Tampa Bay Lightning kicking tires as well, given how effective he was for them during their back to back Cup runs and how badly they could use another versatile middle six winger.

It seems inevitable the Flames will decide to sell this season, and Coleman might just be the top name teams come clamoring after.
