The Montreal Canadiens, as expected, have brought forward Sammy Blais back into the fold, claiming him off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 29-year-old physical forward only got into eight games with Toronto, recording a goal and two assists, along with 28 hits. He was waived on Wednesday. The Leafs had claimed him off waivers from the Canadiens on Oct. 6th, much to Habs fans' chagrin. Montreal had signed Blais as a depth forward to a one-year, $775,000 deal back on July 1st.

He played with the Habs in the preseason, but was looking like the 14th forward coming out of camp, so they offered him up on waivers and the Leafs stepped in. He was reunited in Toronto with head coach Craig Berube, with whom he won a Stanley Cup with the 2019 St. Louis Blues.
But with some injured troops returning to the lineup for the Buds, including Auston Matthews, Matthew Knies and Nic Roy, Blais became the roster casualty.
The 6'2", 206-pound hard-hitting forward was a sixth-round pick (176th overall) by the Blues in 2014 and spent the first four years of his career there, before going to the NY Rangers for a couple of seasons and then returning to the Blues for two seasons.
In 265 career games, Blais has 74 points and a whopping 863 hits in just over 11 minutes of ice time per night.
