NHL Trade Rumors: Top 5 Landing Spots Listed for Blues' Jordan Kyrou

Jordan Kyrou, St. Louis Blues

The St. Louis Blues continue to be one of the teams to watch on the early-season trade market. A very slow start has left GM Doug Armstrong with an itchy trigger finger, and he's likely to start making some moves to snap his team out of their doldrums.

One of the names that has drawn plenty of attention is speedy, scoring forward Jordan Kyrou. He's at No. 20 on the latest Trade Board from The Athletic, one of three Blues on the list.

With five more years after this one on his contract at an $8.125 million cap hit, he's a great value in today's soaring salary cap world. It'll cost quite a bit to pry him loose. But again, with an agitated Armstrong, anything is a possibility.

Lyle Richardson of Bleacher Report has listed five top potential landing spots for the three-time 30-goal scorer.

  • Carolina Hurricanes
  • Chicago Blackhawks
  • Minnesota Wild
  • Utah Mammoth
  • Washington Capitals

There are varied reasons why any of these teams would have strong interest in a proven scorer like Kyrou.

For the Wild, Capitals and Mammoth, scoring has been an issue this season. The Wild are a disappointing 25th in goals per game this season, while the Caps are 20th. Alexander Ovechkin won't be around forever, and current leading scorer Tom Wilson can't be counted on to continue his pace, with his rugged style of play, notes Richardson.

Kyrou would be a tremendous replacement for pending UFA Nick Schmaltz in Utah

In Utah, Nick Schmaltz is a pending unrestricted free agent, and if they can't get an extension done with him, Kyrou would be far more than an adequate replacement.

The Hurricanes and Blackhawks haven't had any problems scoring goals this season, but they're both out to capitalize on their strong starts. After their trading for Mikko Rantanen last year, it's obvious the Canes are willing to take a big swing, and will no doubt try to do that again this season, Richardson writes.

As for the Blackhawks, their long-awaited rise out of their rebuild has them dreaming big things this season, and adding someone like Kyrou to give a big boost to their top-six would take them to the next level. They certainly have the assets to pull off a trade of this magnitude.

One thing to keep in mind is that Kyrou has a full no-trade clause, and some feel that he doesn't want to be moved. So, certainly some hurdles to cross before any of these teams would be able to land the Blues' star forward.
