NHL Rumors: Andrei Svechnikov Speaks on Trade Rumors

Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov looks on during 2025 game.

Andrei Svechnikov moved quickly to shut down talk that he was unhappy in Carolina or willing to welcome a trade.

After a report from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman suggested the winger was open to a move early in the season when his ice time dipped and he opened with an eight-game scoring drought, Svechnikov called it “just a rumor” and said there was “absolutely no” truth to it.

The 25-year-old explained he deleted social media years ago and only heard about the speculation through family, choosing instead to focus on his own game as the Carolina Hurricanes returned home for a long homestand.

Svechnikov Finds His Game On Hurricanes’ Top Line

Svechnikov admitted the first weeks of the season were difficult, but said he stayed patient and trusted what he can bring. Since being bumped back up alongside Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis, he has looked like his usual power-forward self, posting seven goals and 12 points in his last 14 games.

Head coach Rod Brind’Amour backed his star winger, saying he never sensed real unhappiness, only the natural frustration that comes when a top player is not producing or getting prime minutes. In Brind’Amour’s eyes, Svechnikov simply needed to raise his level to earn those minutes back, which he has done.

Behind the scenes, other clubs apparently called to see if there was any opening to pry Svechnikov loose, but were told the Hurricanes still view him as a cornerstone piece who would only move for a “monster” offer.
