NHL Rumors: Insider Links Blake Coleman Trade To Hometown Team
Insider Frank Seravalli has openly connected the Calgary Flames winger to his hometown team, the Dallas Stars. Coleman is a Dallas-area product, and Seravalli basically spelled out the storyline, saying Dallas has interest and that you could imagine a “one-stop” call to Calgary that brings Coleman home.
Why Blake Coleman to the Dallas Stars keeps coming up
Seravalli also reported that interest around the league is huge, with sources indicating 20 teams have already called the Calgary Flames about Coleman. Calgary is not racing to move him, which means the bar is high, but the demand is there and it only takes one club to pay up.
#Flames thoughts after 40:

-I know a lot of fans that consider Blake Coleman to be Calgary’s best forward. Longtime fans that have been following the team since 1980.
Hard to disagree on nights like tonight.
Coleman’s contract matters here too. He is signed through 2026 to 2027 with a $4.9 million cap hit and a 10 team no trade clause, so any “send him home” scenario has to be a fit for both the player and the price tag.
The Stars currently have $3.26M in cap space, so there would have to be maneuvering done to get a deal to work.
This season, Coleman has recorded 12 goals and 19 total points across 39 games played, while averaging 17:05 time on ice per game. He's also a +12 plus/minus rating, which is quite impressive considering he plays significant minutes for a team with a -13 goal differential.
What a Coleman trade would mean for Dallas and Calgary
For Dallas, Coleman is the kind of playoff built winger teams chase every spring. He's won two Stanley Cups, plays hard minutes, and he can slide into a middle six role without needing the puck fed to him every shift.
The bigger question Seravalli raised is whether the Stars can actually afford the asset cost if they also chase defenseman Rasmus Andersson, because Calgary can just turn around and use the leverage of how much interest they're getting in these players to squeeze the market.

If Calgary's in the mix in the standings, they can keep Coleman. If they slide and decide to sell later, Coleman becomes one of the most valuable win now chips on the board because so many contenders see him as a final piece type addition.
