NHL Rumors: Wild Have Significant Interest in Canucks' Kiefer Sherwood

Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood reacts during 2025 game.

The Vancouver Canucks have turned Kiefer Sherwood from sneaky value rental into one of the most expensive tickets on the trade market.

After weeks of buzz and significant interest from the Minnesota Wild, The Athletic reports Vancouver has moved off the idea of simply landing a good young prospect.

Now, they’re asking for a good roster player and a first-round pick for the pending UFA, even as Sherwood cools off with no goals in his last nine games after opening the year with 12 in his first 20.

Wild’s Interest Meets Canucks’ New Price

Minnesota reportedly stepped up with a quality prospect that initially matched Vancouver’s ask, only to see the Canucks push the bar higher once they saw how many teams were circling Sherwood.

The winger’s blend of physical play, forechecking, and middle-six scoring has obvious appeal for a Wild team starving for offense behind Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy.

But a package built around a roster player and a first-round pick feels rich for a 31-year-old who hasn’t yet played 300 NHL games and may have been riding an early-season heater more than a true breakout.

No Marco Rossi, More Leverage Games

There’s also some noise around Marco Rossi, with suggestions Vancouver would love to pry the injured center out of Minnesota as part of a bigger deal, especially after they pursued him in the offseason.

Local reporting pours cold water on that idea; the Wild aren’t expected to move Rossi for Sherwood, especially after his strong start before getting hurt.

If Vancouver sticks to this asking price, Minnesota might end up walking away rather than paying a big price for a nice, but not franchise-altering, wing upgrade.
